Summer Time Fine

It’s the end of the month so…we have new shipments!  We are very excited about the styles that have been arriving in the past week and cannot wait to show off some of these summer must-haves!  We are loving the color combinations as well as the flattering fits that are gracing our racks.  Here are a couple of our favorites!
photo 1.JPG
This great look is composed of the Nicole Miller Kodia Dreamscape Stretch Charm top and a pair of perfect Nicole Miller White Denim pants.  This outfit is great for any activity you may be partaking in over the summer.  Whether it be an outdoor family barbeque or a lunch with some friends, this look is the way to go.
The multicolor Dreamscape Neoprene dress is an easy yet fabulous choice for the summer.  We love the color combination and the freedom this look gives to accessorize!  It also is extremely comfortable so it will be the first thing you grab out of your closet!

Thanks for reading and keep checking our website and social media sites for updates on events and what's happening in the store!

Two Months down, One to go

Today marks my two month anniversary with the most wonderful country, Ireland. It is hard to wrap my head around the fact that in just one short month, I will be returning to Jersey to start my summer of commuting into the city. I will be living three days a week with my older sister in Montclair, New Jersey, making my commute into Krupp Group less time consuming. While the other half of my summer weeks, I will be living at my Mom's new house and working in a town called Deal at a retail store that I have been employed at for the past four years.  I am excited for this split schedule. I get the best of both worlds really. I will be in the city working at my top choice employer and then be at beach on my off hours from my retail job.
This was my first Memorial Day weekend in twenty two  years that I did not spend at the family barbecue or at my beach. I have to say, it was a weird feeling but I would not trade my experience for anything! However, with that said, I am excited for the next American holiday that I will be home. July 4- watching fireworks in the sand!
As all of my childhood friends are graduating this month, I have realized that transferring to Drexel was one of the best decisions I have made. If I were to be graduating with my class of 2014 at Ithaca College with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, I would be absolutely lost right now as to what my next move was. I feel bad for some of these twenty two year olds who are completely at a loss for which direction is up. One of my good friends at IC got in touch with me the other day saying that she was so confused as to what to do next and that she wished she followed her passion as I did regardless of what others thought. I remember telling my friends there that I was going to transfer into our program at Drexel and one girl replied with, "No 'good' jobs come out of having a degree in fashion." Instead of going with my first instinct which was to do physical damage....I simply gave her the Westphal URL and let her see for herself. The co-op program speaks volumes and after completing only a third of it, I know exactly where I want to see myself in the future. I was a little disappointed about not graduating on time, however the experience and knowledge I have gained and continue to gain in Philly, NYC, and Dublin are well worth the extra six months!

Definitely not missing that nasty blue cast!

Beachy Blues

The past two summers I have lived at the Jersey Shore with my friends. I had a waitressing job at night, while I spent my days soaking up the sun. This summer is the first summer I have a "real job." I was at the shore for Memorial Day Weekend, and oh how I miss the beach. I spend my summers in Avalon, NJ. The whole atmosphere is perfect there. I never have to wear shoes, I wear a bathing suit everywhere, and everything is a little better at the beach. This summer will be a big adjustment having a 9-5 job back at home. I am hoping to make it to the shore as much as possible. I think I will be able to appreciate the shore more now that it is a luxury. I remember the first summerI lived there full time, I barely went to the beach! I was just so use to having the luxury of the ocean being in my backyard. June is always the best time to be down the shore when you live there. The tourist arhave not arrived yet. The beach is peaceful and not burning out like in later July. June is the calm before the storm of 4th of July weekend. Everyone who lives at the shore knows that Fourth of July weekend gets a little too crazy. The locals I use to work with always say that September is the best month down the shore. It is still warm and it is completely empty. Working in the coporate world is going to be a big adjustment this summer, but I still have the best memories of living at the shore with me.

Springtime Changes

I love the late spring early summer time. Not only is it right around the time of my birthday (two weeks!), but the weather is gorgeous and everyone is in a good mood. It's impossible to be grumpy when it's 75 degrees and sunny out. I've always felt like the spring brings about a fresh newness more so than New Years. Things are alive and growing again, and people are out and about.

This spring I'm making a huge change and moving to the big city. After discussing it with my parents and finding a great apartment I'm taking the leap and ending my time as a commuter. As my move in date approaches I'm getting nervous. What if I hate living in New York? I've dreamed about this city for as long as I can remember, what if it's not for me? Being away from my friends, my boyfriend and the familiar streets of Philly will be a huge adjustment for me.

As someone who isn't crazy about change, I have to say I'm quite nervous. I keep telling myself it's only three months and then I will be back in Philadelphia completing my senior year. And who wouldn't want to live in New York City for the summer? This year has already flown by, I know the summer will too. Philly is only two hours away and I'm currently managing to go back and forth three days a week so it's not like I won't be back. And knowing me, I'll be dreading moving back in September!

More update's on the move next week!

No Blue Skies or Cast

This is the first Memorial Day Weekend in 22 years that I will not be in Monmouth County, New Jersey at Loch Arbor Beach. Although, I would not mind so much but the weather here has been grey and rainy for the past week. I got so spoiled with the firsts two month's gorgeous, unusual springy weather. Still not complaining though! I am only in Ireland for three more weeks, then it's off to Ibiza for my last travel plans before I am reunited with New Jersey.
I have gained a true understanding from my experience abroad of what I actually can picture myself doing "when I grow up". When people now ask me, where I see myself in ten years I can tell them an honest answer and truly believe myself. What an awkward question to begin with!
I have to admit, I ready to see my sisters and family again. Not that I am homesick, because if someone said I'll book you a flight home tomorrow, I would say no but I would like them to come here! Abroad is absolutely the best experience of my life because in addition to everything I am learning, I am realizing and appreciating my loved ones at home so much more.
Waving with a completely deformed, fragile left hand! No more blue cast!

Paycheck Happy

After cashing a few of my paychecks and avoiding the mall... I broke down and finally went shopping. And I mean I really went shopping.

After not being at the King of Prussia mall for far to long, I was in heaven. Especially with a day that is sunny and 75 like today to prompt me into summer shopping mode. My first stop was H&M mainly because it was the first store I passed. H&M has really toned up this year. I am not sure if internally they are doing something different, but I got a lot of great cloths at a reasonable price. I found two great rompers: one black and one a patterned blue and white. These are great to wear to almost any occasion. I found two great skirts that are long enough to wear to work, but I can still go out in without feeling like a grandmother. One is black and one is blue with a faux leather band at the top. I also bought a great pair of little floral patterned sneakers. These will be great for summer and fall. Next stop, Nordstrom. Now being that I am on a tight budget because I am studying abroad next fall in Paris, I did not buy anything. Yet my eyes were wondering all over the store. From the shoes to the great tops... Nordstrom has really awesome summer finds.

I stopped in a few other stores and got some on sale basics. I am really trying to only buy multi-seasonal clothing. This way I can get as much wear as possible out of my clothes. I hate looking into my closet when it is winter and only see summer clothes and vice versa.  Since I am going to Paris in the fall, I have also been trying to stock up on my black clothing!

The Most Wonderful Place on Earth

This weekend I got to take a break from insane work hours and jet off to Florida for some fun in the sun. On Saturday I flew from Boston to Orlando to meet my English family for some time at Disney. They are spending a full two weeks exploring the parks but I could only get away for a long weekend.

Yesterday we went to Epcot and visited a crazy number of countries in a very short amount of time. My personal favorite was Japan. My sister, niece and I all chose an oyster to pick a pearl out of. Our pearls were all different. My sister got a large creamy white pearl, my niece a smaller, dainty almost pink pearl and I got a gorgeous silvery blue pearl. We had a blast guessing which oyster would have the prettiest pearls. All three of us got our new beauties set into a pendant to keep as a souvenir. I love that the necklace is classic and doesn't scream Disney with Mickey ears or princesses covering it.

Tomorrow I have to face reality and head back to Philly. I have enjoyed my time here with my family and loved getting to experience the magic of Disney with my nephews and niece.

Pitch

My latest task have been pitches. A pitch is basically a list of products that fit a description an editor may want for instance in a magazine. I have been busy scattering the QVC sites in order to find perfect products to fit descriptions. Summer fun, toy store, pink, home decor uner $25... The list goes on. What I found with these pitches is that I have to search a little out of the box for things. I need to look at each pitch in a different way to maximize the products I can pitch and the likely hood they will be feautured. I enjoy doing this. Basically like a personal shopper for someone! I need to be careful because of inventory. I need to always make sure inventory is available if I am going to pitch something. Once something is approved by my supervisor, the editor will request samples of what he/she likes. Next I send the samples and the magazine will decide if they want to use them or not. If they do, I assume they are then shot or placed in an editorial shoot.

It is kinda cool to think that I am the one picking these products out.

Model Mania

Hello again!

My week at Nicole Miller so far has been taken over by emails, model meetings and more emails.  I have been working to continue our Model Saturdays where we feature in-store modeling for our customers and guests of the building.  We like to do this so we can give some inspiration and ideas to Nicole Miller lovers about styling tips, outfit options as well as new merchandise.  Our models showcase the versatility that is at the root of the NM brand and the diversity of fashionistas that look fabulous in the Nicole Miller clothes and accessories.  At Nicole Miller at the Bellevue, we invite all women to show off their personal style through the wide range of outfit options that Nicole Miller features in her gorgeous collections.  We are excited to display some alluring looks this Saturday and encourage you to stop in to check it out!

Receiving Feedback

This week at Wild Poppy Concepts, we have been doing some updating to our own brand. It is interesting to see the similarities and difference when working for someone else's company as compared to Michelle working on her own branding. There are many of the same conversations and planning that surrounds the selected content and appearance. I drafted the initial content for the website under Michelle's request and specific tabs she wanted to develop on the home page. Then, due to my American style writing and sayings, she went through and changed spelling of words (realize=realise, color=colour) like many other pieces that I submit to her. Early on in the development of our relationship, she hesitantly explained to me that corrections would have to be made to anything that I submitted not because she did not like the way I wrote the specific assignment but because of my background as compared to her target market. I reassured her that I would not be offended at all, after all I am working for her and am just appreciative that I get the chance to put in my feedback at all. The praise I receive for my work here is nothing I am used to while attending the prestigious Drexel University Design and Merchandising major and something that I cannot allow myself to get used to because at my next internship in Manhattan (Krupp Group) I guarantee the compliments will be few and far between. I have this laid back atmosphere for another five weeks so I need to soak it all in!

I am learning many areas of marketing that I did not even know existed until it was right in front of me. Dealing with clients can be very rewarding but also very frustrating in my terms but Michelle does not let  the difficult clients get to her. She simply takes their feedback and rolls with it. I need to learn to be more laidback when it comes to criticism and just accept when someone does not agree with my ideas. My boss is a textbook example of a self assured business woman, when I say I am learning more than I expected to, I mean in all aspects of life.

Heading to Cork this weekend to kiss the Blarney Stone. Not like our local UC bar, the actual stone! Cannot wait to write about it next week!

Blue cast wave for six more days!

Retail

Let me tell you, commuting ain't cheap. commuting or moving into the City I decided I would stay in Philly and commute the two hours each way to New York three days a week. Little did I realize just how quickly the price of commuting adds up. When I first began weighing out the pros and cons of Since my internship is unpaid, I decided to make use of my four free days a week and take on a retail job. I have officially been working for the Loft in Liberty Place mall for a week now and I have to say I am liking retail a lot more than I imagined I would.

The team at the Loft have been extremely welcoming towards me and have gone out of their way to make me feel at home. Every associate and manager has taken the time to get to know me as well as help teach me along the way. There is a lot more that goes into working retail than I ever imagined.

My favorite part so far is working on store sets. Switching around the store and putting out new products was really exciting and fun. It has been a great learning experience to see how a large corporation handles the unique aspects of each individual Loft store through their visual merchandising. I also love working in the fitting room. I'm naturally really chatty, so making conversation about trends and fashion with women trying on clothing is a breeze. The majority of my wardrobe comes from Ann Taylor or Loft, so of course I absolutely love the associate discount we receive!

Until next week,
Amelia

Spring Has Sprung in Philly!

Hello Again!

Spring is here and Philly is celebrating!  This Saturday, May 3rd, was Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival.  The Rittenhouse neighborhood was taken over by vendors promoting food, drink and entertainment. Walnut Street was crawling with locals and out of towners looking for a great find, a place to wander and explore or even just an opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous spring weather!  Nicole Miller at the Bellevue was happy to participate in such a fun event.  We were able to set up a shopping station that showcased some of our must have spring silhouettes as well as some of our amazing accessories.  We featured bag brands, such as Pretty Ships and Ali & Izzy, that proved to be a big hit for the street shoppers.  Our Nicole Miller models graced Walnut Street with their Philly fabulous style and showed off some colorful looks.  Our Nicole Miller station was turning heads left and right!  I loved being a part of the festivities and was proud to see the NM team putting so much effort into the event!  Keep an eye out for Nicole Miller Philadelphia in the city, we’re out and about and cannot wait to see what is next!

Here is a link to our blog!  There of course are a few contributions from yours truly ;)

Exploring the Island

Many people do not automatically associate Ireland and island with one another where we come from. However, everyone on this side of the pond does. I think of islands as tropical, clear blue seas, and a colorful umbrella in my drinks but over here it is, lush green grass, daily live music, and a frosty Guinness. It even took me a while to put the two together when I had first arrived and everyone's greeting was 'Welcome to the Island'. This past weekend, I left my, now, familiar city to travel to the west coast of the island into Galway. As all of you know by now, I am loving my living arrangements, job, and friends I have made in Dublin but exploring Galway completely shocked me. If I had the chance, I would move there immediately following graduation and be completely content for the rest of my days! (Now I just need to find an Irishman to obtain that visa!)
In Galway, you get the best of both worlds. The City Centre has more shops, restaurants, and pubs side by side than I have ever seen in my life. On almost every side street off Shoppe Street (main street), there were gorgeous markets that sold everything from handmade jewelry to oysters (that I of course had to try, right there on the street). The Drexel boys, my travel buddies, were totally grossed out which was just an added perk to the fresh seafood in which I gorged in at every meal. The nightlife was roaring until the early hours of the morning but not far out of the populated streets were quiet, quaint residential areas.
On Friday morning, we explored one of the biggest attractions Galway has to offer. The Aran Islands are off the west coast and just a short ferry ride away. We quickly gathered that the best way to see the entire, much smaller island within our return ferry time was to rent bikes. Side note- I have been on a bike about three times in my life and drew blood each time but I was absolutely not going to tell the boys that! Also, it is safe to say that if my wrist was not heeled already, this pretty much forced it to work. I managed really well and impressed myself with no accidents! On our Tour de Aran, we encountered many animals in arms length that spend their days wandering the green grass. This island is the epitome of the green everyone expects to see all over Ireland. We stayed along the coastline and I even put my feet in the water and picked a couple seashells in true Jersey girl style. We biked about 4 miles up to one of the oldest standing man-made forts that served as protection during the British invasion. This fort was at the highest point of the mountains overlooking the rest of the island and the scene was breath-taking. The edge of the fort that meets the Atlantic Ocean were massive cliffs that we were standing on and for once in my life, I felt completely terrified of heights. It was the craziest, most dramatic drop down into the water and I have jumped off cliffs before many times (Ithaca's Gorges are about 60 feet) but this was a whole different level of height. I was one hundred percent the over protective mom to these braves boys who were putting their feet over the edge, gave me several heart attacks from a safe distance. As we safely made our way down, it was amazing to see just how many people visit this place on a daily basis. It was one Euro to climb to the top in order to fund the preservation of the extremely old structure and I have to say I would pay it everyday to revisit.
This trip to Galway made me more excited to travel to other major cities that make up the 'Motherland'.

Still waving with the blue cast!

Holiday

Holiday is the word being sung around the office this week. Yes as in the Chrismas holiday. Products are being shipped from all over to ensure QVC has the perfect holiday selection. When I begin looking at heavy jackets and fleece blankets, my brain is comfused by the beautiful weather outside. Preparation is the key here. Organizatio is a must. Every product that is shipped through the door must be recorded, photoshot, editted, and re-recorded. Everything must be perfect.  I septn 7 hours straight at a photo shoot with just products. Everything must look right in order to go into the look book. This is only the beginning my co-worker told me yesterday.

I am fasinated by the time and preperation that goes into simply catalogs that I take for granted. I see these flying all around my houe the day after Thanksgiving. Yet someone prepared this in June. The time line for products are skewed. This I find interesting and confusing all at once.

On top of the new Holiday products, I moved offices. Not just me, but 650 other QVC employees. To my knowledge it all went smoothly. I do not know how, but I have come to realize that everyone here works as a big team. I am proud to be a part of it.

Michael and the Met Gala

As an avid follower of Red Carpet fashion of course I was all about the Met Ball last night. Following the #metgala and #metball hashtags on Instagram all night was extremely exciting. The buildup in my office all week leading up to the Gala added to my excitement and I couldn't wait to see the MK gowns. Lily Aldridge, Ming Xi, and Zoe Saldana all donned Michael Kors Collection. The most exciting part? Their dresses were all hanging in my office last week!

Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors

 Ming Xi in Michael Kors

Zoe Saldana in Michael Kors

Of the three, Lily's dress would have to be my personal favorite. All three women looked amazing on the red carpet.
