Floor Set Days

No one who works retail likes floor set days.  You have to put out sample clothes and new signage, only to photograph and take right back down again.  And then, on top of all of that, revert the store back to the previous floor set.  This is a long, dreaded process, which I happen to really enjoy.  Obviously hanging signs, steaming clothes, and rearranging things aren't my favorite tasks, but I really do enjoy the change of scenery from my normal, everyday desk job.  I feel more productive and less tired when I have the chance to be up and moving all day long.
Another thing I really enjoy is working with the Visual Team.  They are all such great people and really fun to work with.  The head visual merchandiser is actually from right outside my hometown of Westchester, NY, so we always talk about the latest gossip and sales in the area ( like our favorite store Loehmanns going out of business).  I think it is really important to change up your daily routine every so often.  I personally hate that I am bound to my desk chair all day long, I hardly have the chance to see the outdoors; florescent lighting is as close as I usually get to seeing sunshine.  This is mainly why I look forward to floor set days so much.  Although my feet get sore and my lower back is in some serious pain by 5pm, I will always prefer to work on a floor set than stare at a computer all day.

  1. My favorite part about floor set days is seeing the new space come to life! It's so exciting to see the store transform and it really does make a huge difference. It's also helpful to see what attracts customers and what doesn't theres so much to learn from floor sets and observing people's reactions is always interesting.

  3. LOEHMANNS IS CLOSING!? I have found so many great finds there over the years. Sad to see it go.

  4. Floorset used to be the bane of my existence! It was my job to pull samples of all new deliveries for the upcoming month for basically all the product classes: denim, pants, dresses, knits and wovens. It was a mess! I never got to work on putting together the actual floorset, but I'm glad you seem to be enjoying it!
