Working at Tommy Hilfiger has been an absolute dream and I have been loving every moment of it. Because of these feelings toward the company and my internship, one could only imagine how ecstatic I was when the head of my department asked me if I would extend my internship from the end date of November 21st to December 15th, since they could really use my help before the holidays. I was thrilled and told them that I would check my schedule and let them know.
After really looking at my schedule, I realized that I was in a dilemma...there was a slim to no chance that I could balance the extension of the internship with the prior commitments that I had already made for the remainder of the term regarding projects, finals, my independent study, as well as my part-time job. I was freaking out for quite a few weeks to hear if HR had approved my extension.
Today was when my mind was finally put to ease. As I was working on a shoot in Secaucus for racks and wall displays, I was given excellent advice from one of my supervisors and the photographer on set while at lunch. I was told to explain my situation to the head of the department, but tell her that I would love to help out again in the spring term if there was another internship available. They explained that if I was honest and share how much I love the company and environment, then she would absolutely understand and possibly even lead to a job after interning in the spring before my graduation! Only time will tell, but my fingers sure are crossed in high hopes! Tomorrow is the day I follow their advice with this conversation. I am a bit nervous but I am hoping for the best and have no doubt that this will be a helpful move for my future career.
Ah, that must be so exciting for you! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see how things pan out in the next few months. It must also be great to be taken seriously and be given good advice. They must really really like you. :)
